FBISD names the district’s 14th middle school campus opening in August 2011 – James Bowie Middle School
FORT BEND ISD — At the March 7 Board Meeting, Trustees approved the name for a new middle school set to open in August 2011 – James Bowie Middle School (Middle School #14), located at 700 Plantation Drive, in Richmond, Texas.
A naming committee comprised of parents, staff members, students, which also included the principal, Chris Morgan and Board Member, Jim Rice, submitted the recommendation to the Board of Trustees to name the school, James Bowie Middle School. Bowie is a Texas pioneer and soldier who played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution. He joined the Texas militia, leading forces at the Battle of Concepción and others. In January 1836, he arrived at the Alamo, where he commanded the volunteer forces until an illness left him bedridden. James “Jim” Bowie demonstrated leadership and perseverance during his lifetime and ultimately as he gave his life on March 6, 1836, as one of the 188 defenders of the Alamo in the quest for Texas independence.
Chris Morgan is the principal of James Bowie Middle School. Morgan has been serving as the Principal of Garcia Middle School for the past two years. He first came to Fort Bend ISD in January 2006 as the principal of Walker Station Elementary. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in All-Level Kinesiology, Morgan received his Master of Education in Administration at Texas Women’s University. He also served as principal of Paul Keyes Elementary in Irving ISD before joining Fort Bend ISD.
