**  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  **

Dear Community Members,

I want to make you aware of a few important and timely items of interest that may impact Fort Bend ISD students.

Recently, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) awarded Fort Bend ISD Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPAs).  Through GPAs, the TEA annually recognizes districts and campuses for meeting high standard indicators in one or more of 13 categories not used to determine state ratings.  Because we were focused on continuous improvement, these were awarded in the following four areas for 2011: Attendance, College Ready, Commended Social Studies, and Texas Success Initiative (TSI) in math. For 2009, we received recognition in Commended Social Studies. For 2010, FBISD received recognition in the following three areas: Commended Social Studies, Attendance, and College-Ready.

As a group, our campuses earned a total of 226 GPAs, an increase of 21 from last year. Significant increases in the number of campuses receiving recognition were seen in the following areas:

I encourage you to visit the District’s website at www.fortbendisd.com to view the specific GPAs earned by each of our campuses. You may also access the information by going to the District website and accessing the webpage for the Accountability Department and clicking on “State Reporting.”

Also, while on the website, I encourage you to click on the Generation TX Week (Nov. 28 – Dec. 2) webpage to view important information about College Readiness activities and a Fort Bend ISD course selection calendar for the 2012-2013 school year.

As we are about to break for this special holiday season, I am reminded of its historical significance.  The current observance began when U.S. President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving Day a national holiday in 1863. In 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt established the current date for observance, the fourth Thursday of November. All of us in Fort Bend ISD have much in which to be grateful. I want to express my sincerest appreciation to each of you for your contribution to the wonderful quality of life in Fort Bend and for what you do to make this a great school district. I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving. Have a safe, enjoyable and uniquely American Holiday!

Sincerely,

Tim Jenney
