FBISD Trustee Sonal Bhuchar to Fill Interim Vacancy on TASB Board
FORT BEND ISD - The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees at its June 8 regular business meeting elected member Sonal Bhuchar to fill the interim vacancy for the Texas Association of School Boards' (TASB) Board of Directors, Region 4, Position G. Bhuchar replaces Steve Smelley in the position following his retirement from the School Board in May. She will resume Smelley's three-year term which began in July 2008.
Bhuchar was elected to the FBISD Board in 2006 in Position 2, and then re-elected to a new three-year term in the election held on May 9. She has served as secretary and most recently as president of the FBISD School Board. Her commitment to the FBISD schools began almost 16 years ago when she served on various PTOs and PTAs and district level committees, including the advisory committees for Gifted and Talented Parents, School Health and Community Relations and Partnerships. She has also served on the District Accountability Task Force, Audit and Finance Committee, and the Discipline Management Committee. Additionally, she led the formation of the Student Leadership and legislative advocacy programs in FBISD. A long-time resident of Sugar Land, she and her husband, Dr. Subodh Bhuchar, have three children.
TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.6 million public school students.
