Three Fort Bend ISD Orchestras honored in Mark of Excellence/National Orchestra Honors Project

FORT BEND ISD - Three Fort Bend ISD schools were honored in the Mark of Excellence/National Orchestra Honors Project, which recognizes and awards outstanding achievement in performance by high school, middle school and youth orchestras. To participate in the project, orchestra directors submit a CD recording of their ensemble from the current school year. An adjudicator then listens to entries and provides detailed tape recorded and written comments. Orchestras ranked in the top quarter are named National Winners and those in the second quarter receive Commended honors. Sartartia Middle School’s Orchestra, directed by Ann Victor, was selected as the 2009 National Winner. Austin High School’s Full and String Orchestras, directed by Carolyn Vandiver and Dustin Winson; and Dulles Middle School’s String Orchestra, directed by Sophia Hsieh and Sally Tawfik, received Commended honors.
