FBISD invites community members to submit names for the district's second Alternative Learning Center opening in August 2010
FORT BEND ISD ― The district is seeking community suggestions for naming its second Alternative Learning Center which will open next August. The new facility is located at 7447 FM 521 Rd. in Rosharon.
Nominations of names for new Alternative Learning Center must be written and submitted in a brief one or two paragraph statement that contains biographical/historical data and reasons justifying the suggested name. Per Board Policy (CW) Local for naming new facilities, names nominated shall generally be names for persons or places. If a person, the individual should have attained prominence locally or nationally, and have made a significant contribution to society. If a place, the name should include historical relevance. Typically, the district no longer names schools after planned communities and/or subdivisions.
Suggested names should be submitted to the office of Michael McKie, Assistant Superintendent for High School, 16431 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479. Nominations may also be faxed to 281-634-1702, or e-mailed to sue.marshall@fortbendisd.com. The deadline for submitting names is February 26. After the deadline the new principal of the Center, Michael Bolton, will coordinate the naming committee. The goal is to have a recommended name to submit to the Board of Trustees for consideration at the March 29 Board Meeting.
