Bush High School Teacher Honored as Finalist for Texas AP Teacher Award
FORT BEND ISD ― Cheryl Fuentes-Wagner, who teaches Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish Language and Literature classes at Bush High School, was selected as a finalist for the O’Donnell Texas AP Teacher Award. The award recognizes high school AP teachers who make remarkable contributions to their students, school and the teaching profession. As a finalist, Fuentes-Wagner received a $5,000 cash prize and was honored at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST), held recently in San Antonio.
Fuentes-Wagner has devoted 35 years to education, serving two countries, several school districts and many grade levels. Under her leadership, the AP program at Bush High School has grown from 12 students during its opening year to currently 55 students who average a 90-percent passing rate on the AP exams in language and literature. Her involvement with Advanced Placement is not limited to the classroom. She is also a member of the AP Spanish Test Development Committee and the College Board Best Practices Commission. In addition, she is a frequent presenter at state, regional, and national conventions, and for the College Board Advanced Program. She enjoys traveling and has three children.
The O’Donnell Texas AP Teacher Award honors Edith and Peter O’Donnell for their commitment to improving education in Texas. Support for the program is provided through the Morton H. Meyerson Family Tzedakah Fund.
