Sartartia Middle School Scores Top Award at LEGO Tournament

FORT BEND ISD ― A Sartartia Middle School team, representing the school’s Science and Robotics Club sponsored by Ian MacIntyre, earned second place in the “Teamwork Competition” of the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League qualifying tournament. In addition to the second-place win, the Sartartia LEGO teams ranked 16th, 39th, and 40th in competitions. This was the first year that Sartartia competed in the LEGO League qualifying tournament.

Hosted by the Science, Technology, Aerospace and Robotics Society (STARS) of Cypress, the FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament welcomed 45 teams of students aged 9-14, including three teams from Sartartia Middle School. During the tournament, competitors presented their programmed robots and placed them on a playing field that measured 4x8 feet. At a countdown of “3-2-1-LEGO,” the robots were released to autonomously navigate through a series of tasks. Teams were judged in various categories, including design and innovation.
