FBISD Board approves Calendars for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years

FORT BEND ISD – At its Feb. 8 Board Meeting, the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved Calendar A, one of two calendar options, for school calendars for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. A Calendar Committee that included representation by teachers, campus and central office administrators, parents and the School Board, reviewed two calendar drafts and 85 percent supported Calendar A. The community also had the opportunity to comment on the draft calendars with 80 percent of the respondents supporting Calendar A. Both calendar drafts were available for comment on the district website from Dec. 8, 2009, through Jan. 11, 2010.

Since the state enacted a mandatory school start date, districts have limited options in developing school calendars. The new calendars reflect the best compromise in meeting legal and local requirements with consideration of the preferences voiced by staff, students and the community. School will start on August 23, 2010 for the 2010-2011 school year, and on August 22, 2011 for the 2011-2012 school year. To view the calendars go to fortbendisd.com.
