Fort Bend ISD Fundraisers Benefit Haitian Earthquake Victims

FORT BEND ISD - Like many caring people across the nation, Fort Bend ISD employees and students were devastated by the impact of recent earthquakes in Haiti. To help meet the health needs and provide support to families in Haiti who survived the earthquakes, several FBISD student and employee groups have donated money and resources to various charitable organizations.

Many FBISD schools donated money to support the American Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief Fund. At Walker Station Elementary School, for instance, students and staff donated more than $3,500 through their Penny Power and Hats Off to Haiti Day fundraisers to support the charitable organization. Through their “Change for Change” coin drive, Blue Ridge Elementary School students and staff raised more than $650. Rosa Parks Elementary School donated a total of $450, raised through their “Chain of Giving” fundraiser. Travis High School raised $1,650 as a result of its “Hearts for Haiti” fundraiser to benefit the Haitian Cultural Center. Students purchased paper hearts for $1 and wrote their names or brief messages, including “We Care,” on the hearts before attaching them to a wall display in the school's Commons area. Travis also joined Marshall High School and Dulles High School in supporting Willowridge High School’s bottled water drive, which resulted in more than 30,000 bottles of water being collected for families in Haiti. Clements High School also raised $3,000 from its "Change for Haiti" fundraiser. A team of elementary school counselors also supported the American Red Cross by donating $170 to the organization.
