Congratulations "Lady Canes" on Advancing to the Class 5A State Tournament!

FORT BEND ISD ― Congratulations to the Hightower High School “Lady Canes” Girls’ Basketball Team on advancing to the Class 5A State Girls’ Basketball Tournament, with an overall final game average of 35-3. The Lady Canes finished the season as State Runner-up.

The Lady Canes had an impressive record this year. The team won the Bi-District game with at 52-19 win over Dickinson. They then advanced to the Area Game and defeated Beaumont Westbrook, 61-27. At the Regional Quarter-Finals, the Lady Canes defeated North Shore, 54-51. They then advanced to the 5A Region III title game, where they defeated Bellaire High School.

The Lady Canes include team members Danyale Baker (Guard, #22), Jasmine Brewer (Guard, #24), Bria Butler (Guard, #23), Taylor Gilbert (Post, #34), Tyler Gilbert (Post, #33), Kaylah Guidry (Guard, #20), Azalea Hall (Guard/Post, #25), Alana Heard (Guard, #12), Akilah Johnson, (Guard/Post, #40), Angel Lyons (Post, #44), Brittney Matthew (Guard, #14), Nneka Mbachu (Guard, #21), Tiffany Skillern (Guard, #35), Jasmine Smallwood (Guard, #10), and Tanelle Williams (Guard, #30).

Deborah Mize is the team’s head coach. Assistant coaches are Shannon Burton, Latoya Easter, Raven Laneand Elinor Smith. Team managers include Savannah Fields, Raven Foster, Kiana Gardner, and Charity Jones. Aimee Williams is head athletic trainer, and Bryant Spencer is the assistant athletic trainer.
