First Colony Middle School Student Named National Finalist in Do the Write Thing Competition
FORT BEND ISD - Tejus Satish, a student at First Colony Middle School, was named a 2010 National Finalist for Do the Write Thing, an anti-violence writing program for students in grades 7-8. Nearly 16,000 students from the Houston/Harris County area entered the competition by answering three anti-violence questions. The papers were then read by community volunteers who selected one male and one female student from each school as finalists. From the 240 school finalists chosen, two national finalists and two state finalists were chosen as ambassadors for Do the Write Thing. As a national finalist, Satish will be honored at the Challenge Leadership Summit this June in Austin with a proclamation from the Governor, and be invited to attend the National Campaign to Stop Violence recognition events, which will be held July 10-14 in Washington, D.C.
