FBISD names the district’s 45th elementary campus opening in August 2010 – Heritage Rose Elementary School

FORT BEND ISD — At the March 30 Board Meeting, Trustees approved the name for a new elementary school set to open in August 2010 – Heritage Rose Elementary (Elementary #45), located at 636 Glendale Lakes Drive, in Rosharon, Texas.

A naming committee comprised of parents, staff members and a student, which also included the principal, Tina Brown and Board Member, Susan Hohnbaum, submitted the recommendation to the Board of Trustees to name the school, Heritage Rose Elementary School. The beautiful name of “Heritage Rose” comes from the word “Heritage” which represents the rich history of the community that has been passed down through generations. And, the word “Rose” comes from a pioneer who bought the Rosharon property in the early 1900s and called his estate the Rose of Sharon Garden Ranch due to the abundance of Cherokee “Roses” that grew throughout the property.

Tina Brown, principal of the new elementary school, expressed her thanks to the naming committee members who gave up personal time in the evening to attend the meeting, and said, “It is a unique opportunity to be able to open Heritage Rose Elementary, and I am honored to be the first principal. I am looking forward to working with the parents, and community members from this area and, of course, our talented students.”

Brown is an experienced educational leader and has been serving as Principal for Arizona Fleming Elementary School for the past six years. She was an assistant principal at Arizona Fleming for two years and an assistant principal at Western Heights Public Schools in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. With a total of 18 years as a classroom teacher, she was an elementary teacher in Shawnee Public Schools and Stillwater Public Schools in Oklahoma, and in Brownwood ISD in Texas.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&M University, and her Master of Arts in Education Administration from Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma
