FBISD High School Students take part in Diversity Conference
FORT BEND ISD ― Nearly 500 Fort Bend ISD high school students recently took part in the “FBISD High School Diversity Conference,” offered to students for the first time this year. Held at Williams Trace Baptist Church, the conference was designed to increase awareness, improve communication, and develop mutual understanding of diverse groups among FBISD high school students.
During the conference, students were given the opportunity to network with their peers from campuses throughout the district, take part in several interactive breakout sessions, and hear motivational messages from keynote speakers, Dr. Gwendolyn Webb-Hasan and Tyrone Smith. Participants also enjoyed a series of icebreaker activities led by members of the District Student Advisory Committee, lunch, and give-a-ways.
“The Diversity Conference was amazing!” said Stavinoha Bradley of Bush High School. “It was one of the greatest experiences I've had. The most moving part was seeing so many different cultures, and religions represented among students sitting together to discuss troubling issues, and working together to find a solution. I personally think that's truly what we need in Fort Bend, as well as in America, and the world for that matter."
The highlight of the conference was the final round of the District “Celebrating Our Legacy” Quiz Bowl competition that matched teams from Dulles and Hightower High Schools. Dulles High School’s team was named “Quiz Bowl Champion” after earning the highest score for correctly answering questions relating to FBISD’s 50-year history.
