FORT BEND ISD ― For the fifth-consecutive year, Bush High School’s “Bronco” Navy JROTC has competed and earned top awards in the Navy National Drill, Physical Fitness and Academic Competition.
Held onboard the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, the annual two-day competition welcomed more than 1,000 cadets from 26 of the best Navy NJROTC programs from across the U.S. Cadets were judged in drill, physical fitness, personnel inspection and a 100-question exam covering the entire NJROTC four-year curriculum.
The Bronco NJROTC cadets, commanded by Cadet Commander Jimmy Reyes, placed 9th overall and earned 1st place in Inspection, 2nd place in Color Guard, and 3rd place in team Pushups.
Cadet Commander Reyes commanded both the Inspection Team and the Color Guard. Team members included Cadets Reyes, Aaron Mendoza, Aaron Sandifer, and Aaron Woods. Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Daniel Hernandez led the Physical Fitness Team, which also included Cadets Jimmy Reyes and Aaron Sandifer. In the individual Male Pushups category, Reyes earned 2nd place; Hernandez, 3rd; and Sandifer, 4th place.
The Navy JROTC program was established by Congress to help youth meet life challenges. The program’s mission is to instill in students in secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.
