Walker Station Elementary Students were “Busy as Bees” with Academic Competitions this Semester!

FORT BEND ISD ― For the past few months, Walker Station Elementary School students have been anticipating the excitement of competing in academic competitions at their school. In addition to completing their regular schoolwork, several students in grades 3-5 competed in their school’s Spelling Bee, WSE National Geographic Bee and/or Science Fair.

Approximately 200 WSE students competed in two preliminary rounds of the Walker Station Spelling Bee, which named 15 finalists. Representing third grade were: Kevin J., Bhavya K., Francisco L., Alex M., and Michael T. Fourth-grade finalists were Madison C., Alice H., Jake M., Raj R., and Devanshi U. Representing fifth grade were: Pranav J., Sachin K., Akash T., Tiffany T., and Nathan Z. The alternates were Stanley W. (third grade), Hayden D. (fourth grade), and Karen D. (fifth grade). Alice H. was named winner of the Walker Station Spelling Bee after correctly spelling the word, catapult. She went on to represent WSE in the Fort Bend County Spelling Bee.

Finalists named in the WSE National Geographic Bee included: Mohan K., Claire M., Tejas M., Amy P., Raj R., Mihir S., and Ross T. They each advanced to the finals after competing in the school-level preliminary rounds. Advancing as winners of the final competition were Ross T. (1st place), Mohan K. (2nd place), and Raj R. (3rd place). Ross T. went on to take the state-level qualifying exam and advanced to the state level as one of the 100 state finalists. He represented WSE and FBISD at the Geography Bee in Bedford, Texas.

Students in grades 4-5 also competed in the Walker Station Science Fair. Earning top awards among fourth-graders were: Raj R. (1st place), Alysa A. and Caitlin L. (2nd place), Christian H., Stephen P., and Raphael S. (3rd place). Fifth-grade winners were: Valerie G. and Tiffany T. (1st place), Ross T. and Nathan Z. (2nd place), and Aakshi S. and Estella S. (3rd place). All first-place winners and fifth-grade second-place winners showcased their projects at the FBISD Science Fair Exposition at First Colony Middle School.

Walker Station thanks all of the competition participants, their parents/guardians, administrators, and faculty and staff who helped organize and coordinate the events.
