Math Masters at Colony Bend Elementary Earn High Honors at Recent Competition
FORT BEND ISD - Members of Colony Bend Elementary School’s Math Masters Club earned high honors at a recent Texas Math Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) competition, held at Doerre Intermediate School in Klein ISD. The competition focused on students’ knowledge of high level math concepts, such as number sense, calculator, general math and general science.
After competing against students from 26 elementary schools, Colony Bend’s Math Masters earned 5th place overall and received Commended Performance on the National 2010 fifth-grade Math League test. In the fifth-grade, individual competition, Baonan Ji earned 1st place after earning a perfect score, Sara Venkataraman received 2nd place, and Nandan Marwaha earned 3rd place. In the fourth-grade individual competition, Guilherme Voss Messias dos Santos earned 1st place, and Uma Sethuraman earned 2nd place.
The Math Masters Club at Colony Bend Elementary is a parent-sponsored, after-school program for students in fourth and fifth grade. Students meet once a month to prepare for TMSCA competitions.
