Marshall High School Hosts Annual Poetry Slam
FORT BEND ISD - Marshall High School hosted its annual Poetry Slam to give students the opportunity to showcase their creative literary skills. Competing with their original poems via conference video, Marshall’s poetry slammers matched skills against students at Peekskill High School in New York. Competing from Marshall were Chinwe Anyanwu, Bria Chavis, Jayna Davis, Jaylen Green, Davetta Hayes, Empress James, Curleen Pitt, Ashontecia Sermons-Francis, Braylon Smithers, and Tiauna Young.
After several rounds of competition, Marshall poets prevailed with Chinwe Anyanwu earning 1st place; Davetta Hayes, 2nd place; Bria Chavis, 3rd place; Tiauna Young, 4th place; and Braylon Smithers, 5th place.
The Poetry Slam was a collaborative effort between Marshall’s Library Services staff members Yvonne G. Jackson, Yvonne Flores, and Brittany Wearns; and Instructional Technology Specialists, Diane Watson and Corlette Hill.
